The question as to whether citizens should be allowed to record the police while on duty continues to be a controversial one. According to the Constitution, it is within the rights of citizens to film police on duty as long as they do not interfere with the activities of the latter. Filming is a crucial way of observing, recording, and reporting the performance of the police. It is, therefore, important because it constrains police officers to do their work professionally and ethically (Richardson, 2020). This is because they know that the video could be used against them in court in case they act unlawfully. In essence, filming prevents the violation of human rights from being perpetrated by the police. It could also help capture vital information that could otherwise be overlooked by the naked eye. Such information might play a pivotal role in a court of law.
