The Federal Bureau of Investigation, a United Nations body, tasked with publishing the uniform crime report, receives these reports. As far as the veracity of this method of measuring criminal activity is concerned, it excludes crimes that were not reported to the police and that any changes to the local legislation would result in information spikes and sluggish dissemination strong support for this worry.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation compiles and publishes the National Crime Victimization Survey, a compilation of information about criminal activity in the United States (FBI).
