Firearm Tool Mark Identification Can only Prove or Disprove

Coursework Instructions:

Criminal Justice Class
Topic: Firearm Mechanics
Prompt:
Step #1: Read Chapter 15 titled “Firearms, Toolmarks, & Other Impressions" from the book called “Criminalistics and Introduction to Forensic Science” by Richard Saferstein
Step #2: View the YouTube video titled How a firearm works - Animation (1911 semi-auto handgun) by Skallagrim
The link to the YouTube video above is located here below:

Step #3: Learning and understanding the mechanics of a firearm is important because it allows you to visualize and understand how a bullet and cartridge case receive identifiable tool mark impressions when being fired from a firearm. Being able to identify tool mark impressions, and compare and identify them to the firearm that they were fired from is a specialty, but it is essential that you have an understanding of why this type of evidence can be crucial to an investigation.
Now, I would like for you to combine what you have learned from your reading in Chapter 15 and the YouTube video.
After watching the video, I would like for you to describe in your own words, how your new understanding of firearm mechanics correlates with your new understanding of firearm evidence examination and tool mark impressions. Therefore, please answer the following question:
Questions: Describe a scenario that this type of evidence can help an investigation. What can be determined with a firearm tool mark identification? Also, what cannot be determined?

As they were leaving in their car, they were confronted by an unknown man who pulled out a gun and demanded that White hand over the withdrawn money. White tried speeding off but the shooter managed to fire several shots at the car, two of which fatally hit John White Jr. Police managed to recover seven rounds, two of which came from the body of the victim, and all cartridge cases.
