Helen Ulvinen, the appellant, got a conviction for first-degree murder for covering up for and having prior knowledge of her daughter in-law’s killing. Carol Hoffman was murdered by David Hoffman, the son of Helen Ulvinen and Carol’s husband. David had several times before told his mother concerning the intention to kill his wife. During the night of the killing, Helen saw his son dismembering Carol’s body and helped in cleaning up and corroborating David’s story of Carol’s disappearance. David later confesses that he killed his wife and indicated that his mother knew of his intention to murder his wife and also aided in covering up the crime.
