Unemployment compensation policy is observed by the States on behave of the employees who have lost their jobs due to retrenchment or layoffs. It is a method of payment meant to cushion the recently laid off employee before they get a new source of income. There are certain criteria to be met before one qualifies for the payment plan. For example, there is a stipulated minimum period of time one ought to have been employed, and one is actively looking for new employment. It is a partial income plan until one is employed or for the specified time this policy is also known as unemployment insurance. Many developed nations have this policy and in America, it varies from States to States. Unemployment insurance helps in mitigating economic hardships for the victims of redundancy or retrenchment. It has been observed however that some individual may take advantage of the policy and become reluctant in looking for a job especially when the payment period is extended in the worst hit States. Although the program has benefits especially for an employee who has a family, the amount paid out should be reduced to a reasonable amount to prevent the receipt from becoming comfortable on the pay and get employment quickly.
