The Confederacy was one half of the Civil War that fought against the Union. The Confederacy was composed of the eleven southern states that had remained adamant to embrace certain changes that were being pushed by the northern states. The confederacy especially, stood for the continuation of slavery. It was strictly against the abolition of slavery by the northern states and the Union, under the likes of Abraham Lincoln. To the confederates, the whites were superior to the blacks and they were therefore supposed to dominate over them while the blacks served them in either their plantations or households. The institution of slavery was what basically run the economy of the confederate states, and therefore, any attempt to end it would be an attempt to the very survival of the confederacy.
