Was Reconstruction a Success or a Failure, and Why?
The Reconstruction era occurred in the 19th century in American history and lasted for more than a decade since it started in 1865 and ended in 1877. The Reconstruction process was a success mainly because the primary motive for Reconstruction was to bring on southern states in political participation, permitting allowance for critical rights for the former slaves, hence shaping new relationships involving the Whites and African Americans. Most importantly, the era in American history was a crucial milestone in African Americans’ civil rights; the Blacks could sigh a sense of relief from oppression.
