Reducing Weight among Children with Metabolic Syndrome Using Diet Modification and Physical Activity
Nursing essentials serve the purpose of preparing nurses so that they can have a greater impact on health care to improve quality of care and enhance outcomes. There are nine essentials; however, I will focus on essential V-VIII in this work.
Essential V states that “master’s-prepared nurse uses patient-care technologies to deliver and enhance care and uses communication technologies to integrate and coordinate care” (McCleary-Jones et al., 2013). Using this essential, I will focus on knowing the role that technology can play in helping to improve the quality of care especially for those overweigh children. Using technology in health has become an important topic of discussion especially with the growth of telehealth and telemedicine. Telemedicine is an emerging technology that is being embraced to help improve quality of care (Zhang & Zhang, 2016). And for children struggling with weight and yet they can be helped through appropriate communication fueled by technology, it would come in handy. Technology would come in handy when dealing with children struggling with weight reduction and yet they cannot easily access healthcare institutions for the care they need. Through technology, it would be easy to reach them and offer them the appropriate medical advice and support that they need.
Essential VI states that “e master’s-prepared nurse is able to intervene at the system level through the policy development process and to employ advocacy strategies to influence health and health care” (McCleary-Jones et al., 2013). Using this essential, it would be possible to advocate for better healthcare policies that can help overweight children to manage their weights so that they can grow up healthy and avoid weight related health risks that may follow them into their adult lives.
