Paget's disease, also called osteitis deformans, is a chronic condition that leads to restructuring and enlargement of bones. It is characterized by some defections in the functioning of osteoclasts and excessive formation and breakdown of bone tissues, thus, causing the affected bone to weaken, fracture, misshapen, and resulting in severe pain, among other joint and bone problems such as osteoarthritis. Paget's disease is usually localized; hence, it affects one or a few bones, and it is not yet clear what causes it.
On the other hand, osteoarthritis, also called DJD, can be classified into two types: primary or secondary osteoarthritis. It is a disorder that modifies the weight-bearing-joints, including the vertebral joints, hip, and knee. The prevalence of DJD augments with age. Healthy cartilage facilitates gliding of bones over one another and absorbs energy from shock generated from physical motion.
