Inaccurate diagnosis and lack of physician engagement are risks that healthcare systems face in the absence of accurate information. Different metrics used to arrive at the return on investment (ROI) enhance patients’ satisfaction with physicians’ performance. The adoption of safe practices and improved communication are measures taken by healthcare to improve health safety. Crew Resource Management (CRM) is a strategy adopted to train management, staff, and physicians on safety measures for patient safety. This, increasingly, led to consumer satisfaction, decreased mortality, and improved work culture. CRM is mostly used in facilities such as health care units and rarely in the entire health system. This study looks into the costs and ROI of implementing CRM to ensure the delivery of quality health care.
Moffatt-Bruce et al. (2017) evaluated the costs of ROI of implementing a CRM program in the academic medical center (AMC) to realize the impact of finances on health care delivery. The four main areas of this article are the assessment of the cost of implementing CRM, determining the change of adverse instances of implementing CRM, estimating health system savings associated with reductions, and the overall ROI for this program (Moffatt-Bruce et al., 2017). It illustrates how a health system implements CRM when the focus is on ROI. Some costs associated with it are training, management time, and other pragmatic fixed costs. For instance, the cost of training about 3000 staff was $3.6 million. According to Moffatt-Bruce et al. (2017), the sum of the adverse errors that were avoided was 735, while the savings amounted to $12.6 million. From this evaluation, CRM plays a significant role in ensuring quality improvement in health care systems.
