You have probably seen one or more of the many inspirational posters about decisions. A visual such as a forked road or a street sign is typically pictured, along with a quote designed to inspire.
Decisions are often not so easily inspired. Perhaps you discovered this when choosing a specialty within the MSN program. This decision is a critical part of your plan for success, and you no doubt want to get it right. This is yet another area where your network can help, as well as other sources of information that can help you make an informed choice.

In career development, especially nursing, choosing a specialty is often challenging. In my case, I selected the dermatology specialty, and deciding on the nursing specialty needs careful considerations and factors put in place. I selected dermatology because of my interest in skin health (Truant, T., & Chan, 2017). As a nursing specialty, dermatology is an ideal choice because it will aid in addressing skin health and conditions. Therefore, nurses focus on specific areas of the body and become experts in diagnosis. The second reason was to facilitate patient education (Cherry, 2019). Nurses in dermatology play a crucial role in ensuring appropriate patient education. It was interesting because I know I will help patients understand their skin and skin conditions, the available treatment options, and the appropriate mechanisms they can use to care for their skin.
