Chapter 512 of the Laws of 2016 was formulated, debated, passed, and signed into law in 2016 in the state of New York. This law addresses the issue of step therapy while providing healthcare. Step therapy is a process where a health insurer can deny the coverage of prescribed medication and require the patient to first use medication that is less costly. The patient can only use the prescribed drug if the drug chosen by his/her health insurer fails to improve his/her condition.
