Dear Lucar, Thank you for sharing your insights regarding marijuana. Indeed, this drug is among the most abused substances in the United States. Its demand is high because scientific research shows it has medical benefits. Unfortunately, this substance is illegal in some states, while others have decriminalized it. Recent reports indicate that Americans support the legalization of cannabis for medicinal or recreational use. It is worth noting that the legality or illegality of marijuana in Texas and other US states largely depends on the circumstances of its use. Generally, cannabis is a controlled substance in Texas; its possession, use, and sale are prohibited. Texas law classifies it as a Schedule I drug, attracting significant legal consequences. However, the state allows some limited forms of the drug under strict regulations. People with epilepsy and those experiencing other conditions may use marijuana legally under a physician's supervision.
Several studies have shown that marijuana can relieve specific symptoms of AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis, and other chronic conditions (Baratta et al., 2022). Some do so with a doctor's advice after conventional treatment methods have failed. Even though many reports support the legalization of this drug for medicinal or recreational use, the harmful effects of marijuana should not be overlooked.
