Certified nursing assistants and medication assistant aides mainly assist professional nurses in hospitals and other care facilities. Their role generally entails following all instructions and documenting drug dosages and when they should be taken. Nursing assistants are expected to meet certain requirements before being employed in practice. First, they should undergo four months of professional training and, after that, one hundred and forty hours of experience in a clinical environment. Before beginning their career, nursing assistants must acquire professional certification. Besides basic training, nursing assistants must possess important communication, collaboration, and critical and creative problem-solving skills. Employers assess nursing assistants to check whether they are team players with robust backgrounds and experience in healthcare. They also assess whether they can work independently to complete and exceed basic knowledge in assignments. Some of their basic duties in clinical care include the collection of specimens, infection control and prevention, relating with patients, changing and preparing catheters, grooming the patients, preparing meals, taking and recording vital signs, and communicating with other care teams members.
