Influences that have been Factors in the Aging of the Population
Population change can be described as the process of composition in terms of an age whereby older people increase substantially. Two main factors influence the aging of the population (Australian government, 2016). Firstly, population aging is influenced by the healthcare system, which increases life expectancy. Life expectancy is typical, the average years a person is expected to live. The healthcare system has a significant impact on the longevity of the people. However, developing countries have the challenge of having high expectancy rates compared to developed countries. Advanced healthcare programs have several benefits to the population, which increases the years of the population. For example, good healthcare helps decrease mortality rates, increasing the expected years for individuals. As discussed, life expectancy differs from one country to another depending on the measures taken to preserve health.
Some countries with the highest expectancy rates include China and Switzerland. The USA has a sound healthcare system, but the life expectancy is still low ranging from 70% to 80% compared to China and Switzerland with 80% plus (Australian government, 2016). Secondly, the aging population is influenced by lifestyle. Lifestyle is a broad term covering income, health, and political stability. In most cases, countries with high income per capita tend to have prolonged lives compared to developing countries. Income distribution amongst population determines the age of the population. Substantial income helps eliminate social problems such as crime which increases the age of the population. Politically stable countries reflect an excellent economy, which is essential in increasing the expected years in the population.
1 Biological and 1 Psychosocial Theory of Aging-related to Multidimensional Wellness and Implications on Healthy Aging
Programmed Theory (Biological)
The programmed theory runs on the idea that life is programmed to run in a particular manner. Essentially, the theory suggests that aging is a cycle whereby health starts to deteriorate exponentially and eventually dies (Delcollo, 2020). In this case, organisms have an evolutionary advantage that dictates the direction of the aging process. This particular theory plays an integral role in helping people understand the inevitability of death. Therefore, according to the theory, the aspects are programmed and embedded. It is just like plucking a flower from the stalk, and then after a while, it starts to wither. In such a scenario, the biological system of the plant has been triggered, which makes the flower wither. The same case applies to human beings, whereby the stages of life determine the following option (Delcollo, 2020). The hormonal and immune systems play the most significant role in determining a person's age. The evolution of these hormones affects the immune system in different ways, which arouse physical changes.
Activity Theory (Psychological)
Activity theory is a psychological theory related to wellness and healthy aging. The activ...
