Difference between the paradigms
Nursing paradigm consists of principles, values, beliefs, assumptions, theories and concepts that determine the strategies of interpreting nursing philosophies and subjects. The theories are classified as unitary, interactive process and human needs. In all the three theories, qualitative and quantitative research are applied in testing hypotheses. In the unitary process paradigm, humans are considered to be self-regulating and self-evolving unitary beings (McEwen & Willis, 2014). For the interactive process paradigm, humans are considered to be holistic and interactive as a result of living in a continuum where adaptive changes are necessary. The grand theory differs from the two in that it applies the natural inquiry method in obtaining knowledge.
