Impact of Nursing Shortage
My internship period at a nearby clinic has taught me a lot about the medical world. Besides being part of the most active team, I got the chance to practice all that I had learned at school. I also got to experience how the practical world feels like. However, the main problem facing the healthcare sector at that time was the shortage of nurses. All in all, I am glad I got the chance to practice what I had learned.
New Practice Approaches
The nursing shortage will continue to persist if nothing will be done about the issue. However, different investors in the health care sector have proposed a different way on how to deal with the problem, for example, through education and training (MacLean, 2014). During my internship, I noticed that the healthcare education providers came up with training programs in nursing that were supported by clinical education experts to help reduce the nursing epidemic.
Intra-Professional Collaboration
The doctors, psychologists, nurses, to mention a few healthcare providers worked together to solve the current epidemic in the health care sector. I learned that when two or more professions are involved in a learning process, it becomes easy to collaborate and come up with ways that can help reduce problems facing a particular profession (Rosseter, 2014). Many people think of nursing as the secondary profession compared to doctors and surgeons. This collaboration made everyone equal, and no one felt superior to the other.
Health Care Delivery and Clinical Systems
The healthcare sector has changed drastically over the years. Back in the days, the healthcare providers were the sole determinants of a person’s health. Nowadays people can prevent themselves from contracting certain diseases through exercising and healthy living. The clinical systems have shifted their focus to the patients.
Ethical considerations in health care
The nursing shortage has had effects on patient care and delivery methods. In the hospital, there were fewer trained nurses. As a result, we had to work for long hours under stressful conditions as we were the only available nurses. This led to exhaustion and most of the times; it was challenging to meet the required standards.
