The Effectiveness Of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy In The Deterrence Of Depressive Relapse

Coursework Instructions:

evidence-based project
1. Identify your practice question
2. To address your practice question, search the literature and select one piece of evidence to review and develop an approximately 2-page written report. This evidence can be research: experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental (e.g. descriptive) or qualitative. Alternatively, you can select one non-research evidence: clinical practice guidelines, consensus or position statements, literature reviews, expert opinion, quality improvement
3. For your written report, use APA format. See reference to APA format in your syllabus and feel free to peruse the service of your writing tutors (SEIU-assigned or Bellevue College ones).
4. Use the following format for your report (see the Individual Evidence Summary Tool Appendix G in your book):
Dang, D., Dearholt, S.L. (2018). Johns Hopkins nursing evidence-based practice:
Model and Guidelines, (3rd ed.). Indianapolis, IN: Sigma Theta Tau.
ISBN 978-1-940-446-974
a. State the practice question and provide a detailed summary about the background of the issue (10 points)
b. What is the author, or evidence source, and date? (5 points)
c. What is the evidence type? (e.g. randomized control trial, clinical practice guideline) (10 points)
d. Sample, sample size, setting, scope of literature review (5 points)
e. Study findings that help answer your practice question (10 points)
f. Limitations, if any (5 points)
g. Evidence level and quality (use the research or non-research appraisal tools in the appendix of your text) (5 points)
The write-up will be similar to the exemplars we went over in class last week.
those exemplers are in text book chapter 10 from page 219-234
The most important elements are the study findings that help answer your practice question and your evaluation of evidence level and quality.

The effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy in the deterrence of Depressive Occurrence
Abstract
Relapse impediment in recurrent depression is substantial in the current community health challenge, and antidepressants are the recent first-line action. It is therefore of importance to come up with an effective non-pharmacological intervention which will be a significant development. The study aims at conducting a meta-analysis on single patients to observe the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in treating those with recurrent depressions in comparison with usual care and other active treatment. The practical question thus tries to find out whether Mindfulness-based Cognitive therapy efficient for a particular set of patients with higher or lesser risks of depressive recurrence.
Practice Question
What is the usefulness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in the treatment of recurrent depression as compared to usual care and other treatments?
Introduction
Despite the many progress achieved in the management of psychiatric situations, recurrent depression continuous to originate significant disability and thus becoming costly to the public regarding treatment (Williams et al. 2014). It is, however believed that measures that bar depressive relapse do have a greater potential to reduce recurrent episodes and burden on such patients. According to Segal et al. (2018), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, therefore, provides psychosomatic skills that aim at cognitive mechanisms mixed up in depressive relapse to people with depression history. The intervention works by using both the elements of cognitive therapy with systematic mindfulness training. Kuyken et al. (2015) elaborate that, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) uses mindfulness practices like exercises and meditation in cognitive therapy. These practices are helpful to clients in breaking away from harmful and detrimental thought patterns that are likely to cause depression (Segal et al. 2018). A systematic review of randomized clinical trials suggested that Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy was linked with an important decline in the rates of depressive replace in comparison to other useful care or treatment of such patients.
What is the author or evidence source, and date?
The corresponding author of this Article which appeared on the 2016 American Medical Association is Willem Kuyken, Ph.D., Department of Psychiatry, Watford Hospital, and Prince of Wales International Centre. The article was published on January 15, 2016, and online publishing took place on April 27, 2016.
What is the evidence type?
The mindfulness-based cognitive therapy evidence is a randomized controlled trial whereby data was collected from 8 randomized trials of MBCT. The random tests were acknowledged through an organized literature examination. The evidence through its randomized, controlled trials permitted the investigation of patient-level characteristics as elaborated by Kuyken et al. (2016). The randomized controlled trial hence scrutinized the effec...
