Quality and safety education for nurses(QSEN) aims at continuously instilling the required skills and practices to ensure that nurses in the present and the future continue being accomplished professionals and constantly evolving in their skills, attitudes, and competencies. The overall goal is to ensure that service delivery in the healthcare sector is of high quality and extreme professionalism to increase and improve the safety of the patients. Going through these requirements, I have learnt quite a lot about myself and what is needed from me to be a better person and a better professional altogether.
When I went through the QSEN website and reviewed the Evidence-Based Practice section of the QSEN Competencies, I identified three attitudes related to evidence-based practice in which I will seek personal growth as I work through this course. These are: Appreciating the strengths and weaknesses of scientific bases for practice, appreciating the importance of regularly reading relevant professional journals, and Valuing the need for continuous improvement in clinical practice based on new knowledge. These three constitute the foundation upon which I can further grow as a person and professional in this field.
I need to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of scientific bases for practice since this is the basis of inquiry. Scientific discovery is there to help streamline operations and generate a sense of inquiry or wanting to know more. It, therefore, helps to breed a spirit of exploration, which is important in healthcare.
