Community Acquired Pneumonia
Community-based pneumonia is pneumonia acquired outside a hospital setting. Thus the selection of antibiotic treatment is empirically dependent on the choice of agents relevant to treatable bacterial causes of Community-Based Pneumonia ( CAP) ( Metlay et al., 2019). Different cultures have different diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical treatment decisions.
Traditionally, bacterial pathogens included Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella species, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae. However, with the introduction of the pneumonia vaccine, there has been a reduction in community-based pneumonia cases. Unfortunately, according to Metley et al. ( 2019), there is no accurate diagnostic test to verify that community-based pneumonia is solely due to bacterial interactions.
Therefore, patients with community-acquired pneumonia display symptoms such as high fever, cough, dyspnea, rigors, and chest pain. Thus, the physician should assess the need for hospitalization and clinical judgment.
