As a drug and alcohol treatment counselor, if you want to assume an active role in mobilizing the resources within a community it is useful to have certain knowledge and skills. A major part of this knowledge is knowing who to contact for what. How will you create meaningful relationships with contacts to best serve your clients and the community?
Papers should demonstrate your understanding of the concepts and theories covered in the reading and supplemental material for the unit as well as ways in which these concepts relate to current events and/or your personal experience. Students must use relevant terminology while defining concepts/theories in their own words.

One of the biggest problems social service providers face is limited resources (Corey & Corey, 2021). The lack of resources makes it difficult for counselors, for instance, to provide effective and quality care for drug and alcohol addicts. One way of solving the problem is through the establishment of contacts which are vital in mobilizing resources with and without the community. However, mobilizing these resources requires specific knowledge and skills and encompasses knowing whom to contact at the right time and for the right reasons. Such contacts are essential because they avail resources and expertise required to serve the community best.
