Yes, I have. In my workplace, I work in the neonatal intensive care unit. After participating in the simulation exercise on the Pathways to Safer Opioid Use, I focus on empowering family members to believe in their lifestyle modification choice irrespective of the barriers existing in their environment. I have come across expectant mothers who used opioids for chronic pain management in my nursing career, while others used opioids as illicit drugs. The continuous use of opioids was detrimental to their health and the unborn child, leading to further health complications. Addressing opioid use syndrome to improve maternal and infant health is the CDC’s primary objective in combating opioid use in mothers.
