As we dive into this month's newspaper article, we want to highlight one current technology tool for assessment and then outline its benefits and drawbacks. We will also discuss how they minimize bias in the classroom and the role of formal assessment results in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Lastly, we have included "Tips for Families" and "Additional Resources" sections to help you support the children.
One Current Technology-Based Special Education Assessment Tool
Q-global is one of the technology-based assessment tools developed and distributed by the Pearsons Clinical assessment, a division of Pearson Education. Q-Global allows one to input results manually. It can store and retrieve the student's information, perform data analysis, generate scores, and produce accurate reports (Pearson, 2023). Additionally, Q-Global has very many assessments, including (a) the beck anxiety inventory that assesses physical and cognitive symptoms of anxiety, (b) the behavior assessment system for children (BASC) that helps provide a child's complete picture, and (c) BASC-3 Flex that helps track behavioral progress over time among others (Q-Global, 2020). Through all these tests, educators can evaluate a range of students' needs and understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Potential Benefits
* Comprehensive assessment options-Q-Global has more than fifty assessment options, all of which can be used to assess different aspects of the child. For instance, one can use the Sheywitz Dyslexia Screen for children with dyslexia and Ravens 2 for clear thinking ability and intellectual capacity (Q-Global, 2020).
* Customizable reports: Q-Global allows customizable reports, which can provide a detailed overview of student performance, strengths, and weaknesses. These reports can be helpful for parents and teachers in creating individualized education plans (IEPs).

Drawbacks
