General Screening Assessments

Definition:
General screening assessments refer to all general information collected and recorded about students at each school level. It relates to current information about student's health, performance, and other available data

General screening assessment is a significant process of identifying students who might have difficulties reading and need more instructions or need a different set of instructions (Early Literacy: Tools 2017). Therefore, it helps identify potentially poor-performing students.
One challenge associated with its implementation is that general screening assessment is highly predictive of interest. Most students fear mathematics hence are not interested in it (Jenkins & Johnson, 2018). Secondly, it might be challenging to sort students at risk from those not at any risk. Also, teachers might not know what the screening is measuring; hence, they might appear irrelevant (Student Assistance Team: General Screening and Student Intervention Guideline,s 2020).
