Terry Edmonds is a highly respected African-American public relations specialist who has worked in both government and private sectors. He started his PR career by going to various TV, radio, and newspaper outlets in Baltimore, where he faced challenges due to the limited diversity in the industry. However, he eventually landed his first job at United Way, where he learned the fundamentals of the field. He quickly caught the attention of his colleagues and went on to work at a local brewery, the Maryland Science Center, the Maryland Mass Transit Administration, and Maryland Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Edmonds also worked at the Joint Center for Political Studies, where he found that he enjoyed the political aspect of PR. He went back to Baltimore to work for Congressman Kweisi Mfume and was later hired as the chief speechwriter for President Clinton.
