Technology provides power to those who can manipulate it, and every person can twist or straighten this power. This is because almost all of us are technology-literate. One of the TED Talks that dissected its significance and pros and cons was headed by Damon Horowitz, who spoke about “the moral operating system.” His speech had positive and negative points that must be analyzed to understand technology’s capacity in ruling our lives.
The problem with using technology is that it collects both necessary and unnecessary data, and the moral compass from which the ethics are derived has been argued to be calculated or miscalculated. The speaker instigated that people are presumptuous to use technology without being guided by a particular moral operating system. However, this concept is vague because precisely calculated ethics can guide not all actions. Without such a framework, people will use anyone’s data in vain. Therefore, it gives the person the power to control another’s life (Horowitz, 2011).
