Gottman (2002) pointed out that partners or lovers ought to turn towards each other and not turn away as this helps strengthen their emotional connections and relationships. When people are using technology, including mobile devices, they tend to be engrossed in what they are doing. The problem with this is that it creates distance and emotional connection if the partner does not seem to show interest and strengthens the relationship. Affection, attention and affirmation are essential for connection, and technology makes it more challenging to affirm and show affection to partners are they are less attentive to their patterns needs.
