A runway incursion can be simply defined as the incorrect presence of personnel, objects or even other aircrafts at the area that is usually meant for the takeoff or landing of another aircraft(FSF,2017). Runway incursions are usually a product of several things, such as communication breakdown and low visibility. It results in failure to observe the required separation distance and time between the landing or takeoff of aircrafts. This means there is a great risk of serious accidents and subsequent injuries or fatalities. According to the FSF (2017), while there has been a decline in runway incursions over the past three decades preceding 2013, there has been a steady rise since then.
