A situation occurs where airlines schedule more flights than the runways can handle even in good weather conditions. For example, as many people make bookings, the airline schedules their flights in only the available aircrafts. This leads to a situation where two or more aircrafts seek to make use of the runway, gate, taxiway, or any other facility in the airline at the same time. Delays occurs because one or more airlines have to wait while the other is being accommodated (Chapter 3, n.d.).
One solution for this problem is to this problem is to have the users or aircrafts arrange the services in the airfield to have evenly spaced intervals. The airfield would manage to accommodate the aircrafts using a rate that is singularly determined by the time required to move each of them through the facility (Chapter 3, n.d.).
