McDonald Inc. has been facing employment law issues. For example, the U.S MacDonald restaurants were accused of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act for failing to increase workers’ minimum wage and to pay overtime wages (Clemmitt, 2015). Furthermore, the Brazil-based McDonald restaurants were accused of hiring teenagers to work in their kitchens without protective devices, safety and health violations, employee mistreatment, and denying employees overtime wage pay and the right to join union activities (Greenhouse, 2014) while in Europe, McDonald was accused of tax evasion.

McDonald defended itself arguing that ever since it started its operations in U.S and other foreign markets, the firm has been complying with labor laws of the respective countries (Taylor, 2015). Ever since McDonald’s management has been dedicated to living up to legal and ethical standards and assists its workers to live up to its business conduct and standards.

Regardless of whether the above allegations are true or not, McDonald is aware that the complaints and accusations are not good for the organization’s reputation. In March 2015, McDonald announced changes that the firm planned to enhance employee relations and employment reputation (Taylor, 2015). Since then, the company ensured that it pays taxes to dispel rumors that it does not pay taxes in Europe. Furthermore, the organization increased wages for its workers and accepted to pay overtime wages to settle lawsuits regarding minimum wages and overtime wage issues. The issue with unionization in Brazil based McDonald restaurant is resolved as workers now are unionized. McDonald clarified its stance that although it offers employment to young people, it does not hire teenagers to work for the company. The company also supports fundamental rights for all people and prohibits abuse of employees. The company is committed to complying with employment laws in each market in which it operates. The company ensures that it provides healthful and safe working environment to all workers.
