Coursework Instructions:

You have been serving for the past two years as a mid-level employee in a US-owned pharmaceuticals company in one of its overseas subsidiaries. (For the purposes of this exercise, assume you have been posted to Russia, Turkey, or Japan). You have worked closely on a daily basis with a dozen locally hired employees as part of a broader sales group. You have gradually adjusted to the cultural differences and maintained close and cordial relationships with your colleagues, but this has taken some time and it wasn't easy early on.
You have just received an e-mail from your replacement, as you are departing for another position, and she would like some advice concerning how best to seamlessly and quickly integrate into the team.
Using Hofstede's dimensions, advise her about the specific elements that you perceive will be most effective in her transition and how they come into play during her daily responsibilities at work. Be sure to explain what you would recommend she do. Select at least three dimensions and provide concrete examples of their significance at work and as appropriate to her broader integration to her life in this new location.
Part one is your primary blog (3 thoughtful paragraphs). Create a thread with your last name in the title followed by your topic. For example: "Lauer – cultural tool selection blog." Then, write your post. Do not attach it as a Word doc. Create your post and copy it directly into the box provided by BB. Once you have created your primary thread, you will be able to see your classmates' threads. Until you submit your primary thread, you cannot see your classmates' threads. You will also not be able to go back and modify your primary thread after reading your classmates' threads. Your primary blog is worth up to 30 points.
Content (up to 30 points): Students responded to the question appropriately, demonstrated an understanding of the material, accurately included course vocabulary and terminology, included example(s) to better illustrate concepts and made a compelling argument.
Anything that is not your original work must be appropriately cited in APA format. Although outside research beyond what is required in the prompt is not a requirement of this post, copying and pasting without attribution is never allowed. If you use any outside resources, you must cite them.

Working in a multicultural environment can be very challenging, especially if one is not well prepared to deal with people from various diverse cultural groups. Every country in the world has its own unique culture that even becomes more live in the workplaces. Japan is not an exception in this, and therefore anyone meaning to work there must have some knowledge about the culture of the people there. For the most effective transition into the Japanese work environment, it is important to understand the elements of individualism versus collectivism, masculinity versus femininity and Uncertainty Avoidance.
The cultural dimension of individualism versus collectivism investigates the extent to which members of a society depend on each other. In individualistic societies, “I” is the commonly used term for defining self-image while in collectivistic societies people are defined user groups. Japan is a collectivistic society given that it values group harmony rather than individual opinions (Dimitrov 2014). The Japanese show loyalty to their inner family groups or extreme loyalty to their companies depending on the situation. Being reserved people, they value their privacy, and in case of any embarrassments, the Japanese show a strong sense of shame. Given these facts, it is recommended that a foreigner working in Japan should not always insist on their individual opinions but rather go with what the group prefers. Also, if one wishes to criticize the company, they should consider the choice of words in cases where the Japanese are loyal to the company. Moreover, a foreigner has to be careful with the degree of sharing or inquiring for personal issues that may be considered invasive by the Japanese and cause unnecessary discomfort. It is also necessary to involve everyone in decision making.
