EXPERIMENT: Dr. Leon de Ponce is a scientist who is interested in studying the causes of aging. He observed that the state of Florida has an unusually high proportion of older people living there. He also observed that the per capita sale of prune juice is higher in Florida then in other states. He designs an experiment where he takes 200 laboratory mice, and divides them into 2 groups of 100 mice each. Group 1 is fed standard mouse chow and receives tap water to drink. Group 2 is fed the same mouse chow, but receives prune juice to drink. He records the length of time that each mouse in the experiment lives. He finds that the mean life span of both groups of mice is 3 years.
