In the years up to 2007, Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung dominated the smartphone shares market by 60%. The companies could satisfy the then high demand for Multi-media functions, such as high-end camera, Internet Browser, PDA Device, and media player. Apple's entrance into this sphere was catapulted by the Apple App Store sensation that launched in 2008 CITATION Dav15 \l 1033 (Baldwin). Apple's main competitor was RIM's blackberry and android that provided lower prices and more variety to rival apple. By 2010, Apple and Blackberry were the most profitable mobile manufacturing companies.
Since then, HTC, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Huawei, and Motorola have become formidable competitors, with some HTC and Motorola falling along the way. The companies targeted demographics are the Eastern Asian market, especially China, Japan, and South Korea. Apple has achieved success on American soil if the revenue of $29.32 Billion in 2020's first quatre is anything to go by. However, the gross regional income is a point of concern due to its dependency on China. Apple manufactures most of its products in China; therefore, tensions between China and the Us might pose some vulnerabilities to Apple's competitiveness on a regional scale if the labor cost might influence manufacturing costs in China. Consequently, this will increase the retail cost that will lead to less consumption of apple products.
