Question 1
Analytical model of decision making is a process that takes a systematic approach in making decisions. It starts with identification of the problem, then defining objectives, followed by predecision, generating alternatives, evaluating alternatives, making a choice, implementing it, and finally evaluating it. The first step for Coca-Cola was to identify the fact that it's products needed a new look (Greenberg, 2011). The next aspect was for the company to define its objectives which was to focus on changing appearance of their bottles. Predecision involved deciding how to change it by involving its customers around the world who gave several alternatives. The best bottle design was won by Earl Dean who was even offered employment at the company. Once the best design bottle was chosen, the next step was to implement it in the sale of their drinks and later evaluate its success over the 100 years it had performed.
Question 2
All along its growth and development, the company made an error when they diversified their products with different designs of bottles. It was a great idea to expand its products but the bottle design should have remained the same for them to compete favorably amid rising competition in the modern world. Unlike in the 19th century when the design role was under Earl Dean, the proliferation and growth of the design department with several ideas of new standards must have overwhelmed the company. Moreover, adoption of the aluminum bottles was a good idea amid rising need for lighter and cheaper bottles that could easily be produced.
