Case Study Instructions:

Assignment 1: Case Study Document on the introduction of the Electronic Health Record/computerized charting system
This case should focus on the planning and implementation of the introduction of the Electronic Health Record/computerized charting system at Memorial Mental Health hospital as an organizational change. Using a narrative format, write the events of the case including the key players involved. Take care to include sufficient detail to give yourself content to analyze. Your case study should be about 4 pages in length (typed and double-spaced). Remember, great writing is often succinct and use 5-6 scholarly references to support your work.
As you write the case study, take the perspective of a "fly on the wall" and provide the details in an unbiased voice. The case should be the story of the change only. Take care not to provide analysis or discussion at this point in the process (this will come later in Assignment 2). Include the organizational context and background to the change process in your narrative. Present your case in an original way.

Introduction
The Electronic Health Record (EHR) is an electronic record for patient’s health-related information and practitioners within the healthcare facility can easily create, gather, and manage data and information. The EHR system promotes real-time, patient-centered records that ensure information is acquired instantly by authorized users. The computerized charting system helps in the documentation of patient care using computers. The Memorial Mental Health hospital is interested in the implementation of Electronic Health Record to help in promoting workflow and improve the safety and privacy in the healthcare sector. The mental facility has the technical experts who will be needed in integrating the new system to the existing system. The primary goals of the facility are to improve the quality of care offered to patients, facilitate privacy and encourage collaboration among healthcare providers.

Some of the critical factors that should be addressed include the workflow in the health facility; for example, the new system will affect how practitioner create, modify, store and share patient’s confidential information. The steering team will ensure that an effective electronic environment is created to support the EHR system. In this case, the required servers should be purchased since data will be stored in a centralized position. Also, networks that connect all department should be created; this will allow the workers to access the system with ease to retrieve, modify or share information and data.
The steering team will also plan on how various human aspects that would impact effective implementation should be managed. For instance, resistance from the practitioners would affect the implementation and success of the electronic health record. The team will determine how consultations will be done to ensure all practitioners are part of the change process. The involvement of all mental health practitioners in the change process would help...
