The affordable care was to improve and increase healthcare access to all Americans but the launch failed to go through. The Affordable Care Act initiated by former president Barack Obama to facilitate Americans coming up with conclusion concerning health facilities and services had an official website for easy exchange, hence making it easy for patients to have variety of choices.
Key factors
Factors that led to the website launch failure included poor planning in which the same login method was shared by technicians, making it challenging for the team to easily login and troubleshoot problem (Gwanhoo & Justin, 2015). Lack of relevant experience raised an alarm for users having private insurance and maintaining enormous institutional schemes. This was unlike the experience in technology related products.
Change Management
Change management could have been handled differently with the healthcare government launch by letting each state decide independently without any influence and limitation to time. Robinson (2015) states that some states needed more time while others got ready immediately after the launch of the Healthcare Act Plan. Moreover, increasing performance time while reducing political attention would have saved the Americans from traumatic experiences during failed website launch.
Cost of The website and App
A report released by the Office of Inspector General indicated that the government spent almost $1.7 billion for the healthcare act launch. Health expenditures per person also accumulated to a total of $10,000 on average. Initial and existing contractors did the website development. Healthcare.gov website maintenance cost totaled to $2,142 million. The U.S government considered both bilateral and unilateral contracts during healthcare.gov website development.
