Environmental Health Issues in the Covid-19 Pandemic

Case Study Instructions:

You will be writing this case study to briefly detail the various responses to the environmental health issues in the Covid-19 pandemic. You can include as many issues/sections as you see fitting the issue but you must include sections that address the following issues:
-Air Quality and it’s impact on people with reduced lung function who contract Covid-19
-The Possibility of this being a vectorborne disease and the governmental response to that
-The impact on vulnerable populations
-Surveillance and Traceability and the response to that
This assignment should be double spaced using subheadings, properly cited both in-text and reference page using APA format.

Environmental Health Issues Caused by COVID-19
Introduction
The novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is an infectious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Covid-19 can trigger a mild condition that resembles the common cold, although the person can recover without seeking pharmacological interventions. Some Covid-19 clinical manifestations include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. The disease can result in respiratory syndrome, pneumonia, or even death in severe circumstances. This paper evaluates various environmental issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic, including increased biomedical waste generation, use of safety equipment, and haphazard waste disposal. It also explores air quality and its impact on people with decreased lung function who contract the virus, the possibility of the disease being a vector bone, and government response protocols to address the health crisis. Ultimately, the report establishes the impacts of Covid-19 on vulnerable populations as well as the surveillance and traceability measures.
Increase in Biomedical Waste Production
The emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic led to increased biomedical waste production worldwide, which has emerged as a key danger to the surroundings and public health. Health practices such as collecting samples from individuals suspected of being infected by Covid-19, diagnostic equipment, and treatment of many patients in medical institutions resulted in a rise in biomedical waste generation. For example, physicians in Wuhan China generated over two hundred and forty tons of biomedical effluents daily in the initial days following the Covid-19 eruption (Rume & Islam, 2020). In order to combat the explosion of Covid-19, people needed to wear hand gloves, face masks, and other safety apparatus, which increased the amount of medical waste disposal in the environment globally. Due to a lack of knowledge on managing and controlling infectious trashes, most civilians disposed of already used Covid-19 safety equipment in open places (Rume & Islam, 2020). In this context, such environmental haphazard disposal of medical trashes caused severe environmental pollution and cogging of water paths.
Impact of Air Quality on People with Reduced Lung Function Who Contracted the Virus
The Coronavirus pandemic triggered deteriorated air quality practices in the environment among different states on a global scale. In this regard, Covid-19 is linked with an increment of SARS mortality and influenza infection incidents among patients with Coronavirus. Accordingly, during laboratory analysis, SARS-Co-V-2 indicated steadiness in ambient vaporizers and was considered a source of Covid-19 disease. Aerosols also affect patients with decreased lung function by inducing indirect system impacts in their bodies, causing pro-inflammatory mechanisms in the Covid-19 patient lungs (Ali & Islam, 2020). Furthermore, exposure to contaminated air results in adverse health impacts to Covid-19 patients, leading to an increased number of patients admitted to hospitals and augmenting their mortality rates.
