Case Study 2
Calculations: Calculate the client's target heart rate using the Karvonen formula.
Training Program: Design a full 12-week periodized training program for the client described in the Client Profile. Be very specific as you design the training program. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your full comprehension of the information and concepts discussed throughout the course. List the types of exercise, duration, sets, reps, rest intervals, and so on.
Include the following in your case study submission:
A description of your professional responsibilities as discussed in the stages of the drawing-in process (Unit 12)
Discussion of any fitness tests, methods of evaluation, and data collection used to assess and evaluate the client's needs
Specific conditions that you have identified in the client profile
A fully detailed 12-week comprehensive and periodized training program including specific exercises, sets, repetitions, suggested rest times, etc. Use an integrated approach in your program recommendations.
Specific and detailed nutritional strategies and an explanation as to how the strategies will assist the client in meeting energy needs
Explanation for your chosen assessment, programming, and nutritional recommendations. (Be sure to reference course concepts when discussing rationale for your recommendations.
Keep in mind that a client should be able to take your program and put it into practice without having to contact you to clarify what you intended by your recommendations or to explain parts of your program.
Don't forget your explanation for WHY you listed and recommended what you did. Reference the concepts and theories covered in the course. Be sure to address why the program and exercises recommended are appropriate for the specific client given the client's history, current abilities, and intended goal(s). For example: if you are developing a program for a beginner client without any resistance training experience, explain how your program addresses the lack of experience, initial need for foundational development, process by which you would safely progress the client, etc. Tying your program to course concepts is a critical component of your case study.

Review the Client Profile below.

BMR Calculation
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) can be defined as the rate of energy expenditure per unit time. Proper measurements require an individual to meet a strict set of criteria. The BMR for Diana Prince can be calculated in the following way.
BMR = 66 + (6.23 x her weight in pounds) + (12.7 x her height in inches) - (6.8 x her age in years)
=66 + (6.23X 165) + (12.7X 5.5) + (6.8X 37)
= 66 + 1027.95 + 69.85 + 251.6
= 1415.4
The as follows:
BMR = [Weight in Pounds/(Height in inches x Height in inches)] x 703
The BMR of Diana Prince is found to be 38.81. It means her weight is more than the normal weight, and as per the standards of the BMR chart, she falls in the category of Obese People.
Target Heart Rate = ((maximum HR − resting HR) × Percentage of Intensity) + Resting HR
Maximum HR = 220 - 37 (The age of Diana Prince) = 183
In a situation when the resting HR is not mentioned clearly, it is possible to use the average value (70 bpm) as the resting heart rate. The calculation can then be done in the following way.
At 60 percent of intensity, the target HR is ((183 - 75) x 0.6) + 75 = 139.8 (the training heart rate of Diana Prince)
Similarly, at 80 percent of intensity, the target HR is ((183 - 75) x 0.8) + 75 = 161.4 (maximum training heart rate of the client)
Her training heart rate zone will be something around 139.8-161.4 beats per minute or per 60 seconds.
An Overview of the Case
As is mentioned, Diana Prince has lived an inactive life for quite a long time. Prior to the birth of her child, she used to do the workout regularly, and according to her BMR results, the weight of Diana Prince is more than the normal range, which is why she feels tired and lazy most of the times. The best way to deal with these problems is by changing her lifestyle, and for this purpose, I have designed a 12-week training program for her. The most appropriate test for Diana Prince is the sitting-rising test in which she will have to sit and raise a number of times according to the given timetable. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the flexibility and consistency of her muscles. For this purpose, a score chart will be used on which Diana will have to get a minimum of 9 out of 10 scores.
Workout Description
For Diana Prince, the following workout has been planned for the next twelve weeks.
1 Week 1 – In the first week, she will have to do three cardio sessions, each of which will consist of five to eight minutes.
2 Week 2 – In the second week, Diana Prince will do three additional cardio sessions, with ten to fifteen minutes in duration.
3 Week 3 – The third week will get her involved in four cardio sessions, with fifteen minutes in duration.
