Major Assignment: Team Development of an International and Global Distance Education Comparative Framework and Key Differentiator Questions.

 

This team assignment collectively uses case studies to create representative framework of distance education programs around the world. You will select, as a team, a continent (North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia/New Zealand) as a focus for case studies which you as a team will source and examine. Case studies can be drawn across multiple sectors (K-12, post secondary, corporate, government) or focus solely on one sector.

 

Each team will investigate two international or global distance education initiatives taking place on their chosen continent. Teams will analyze their selected case studies to reveal purpose, culture, sector, design and delivery considerations. Case studies will also be analyzed from a policy, funding, and partnerships perspective.

 

The result of this analysis will include the following:

A team report will depict the case studies using a comparative structure formulated by your team and supported by literature. Common themes between the two initiatives will be defined and a set of key questions will be generated as the paper's final section. These questions should be able to serve as a guide when analyzing distance education initiatives generally in the future. APA is required.

The University of Edinburgh was founded several years in Britain and served as the first civic university in that place. (Cambria Group, ND) it was established in the year 1582 as a civic institution. It has a wide student representation globally and is attended from all corners of the world. The university offers first, second and third degree courses in its programs. These degree courses are done together with other short courses within the institution. The number of college schools under it is close to 20 in number (Cambria Group).
Overview of Culture and DEI
The university has a wide culture given the diversity of the student population that it draws from around the world. Over the time it has had students attending its physical location till it established its distance learning initiative that does not necessarily require the students to travel to it. The students can learn from the remote places where they live. The distance learning initiative was launched to cater for travels that might have resulted into students breaking their careers and moving far distances to the university to study.
Establishment
This program was established in the year 2010 with a target to increase the student populate under it by 2020. The institution started by a few courses and is currently looking forward to increasing the number of courses and students under it. The colleges under it and other partnering institutions were assisted to develop their online programs to accommodate this (University of Edinburgh, ND)
Design and delivery of the initiative
The online education initiative had established a wide range of initiative that will foresee the system picking up on an improvement plan for a wide length of time. This design is accessed through a single log on mechanism through the student portal (Cambria group victorious, ND). It encompassed the entire revision of models and research on how other universities conduct their program, establishing a center of DE, offering technological solutions and redesigning the system to accommodate their results (Miri Barak, ND).
Analysis of the distance learning initiative
The policy involvement of this program helped to ensure that there is a smooth transition of the system so that all the courses are well and effectively taught. It helped change the attitude from teaching to learning so that the student was not affected by the distance program.
