Understanding the importance of privacy in today’s world is important for anyone. Privacy invasion is one of the most common and persisting threats to our civil rights, yet is also one of the most vaguely protected concepts. Accordingly, this paper would focus on the issue of Media Privacy Invasion in three different levels, namely; Local, National, and International. To achieve this goal, the author would initially outline a general overview of how this issue is addressed and thereafter synthesize them in the succeeding sections. All in all, it is the author’s belief that more efforts should be given towards laying down the definition and guidelines regarding media privacy in all levels of society.
Media Privacy Invasion
Media Privacy Invasion is one of the most commonly violations that are committed by news organizations. Whether it be within the context of an individual’s property or within his personal space, invasion may happen whenever media crosses over. However, this issue is also one of the most misunderstood especially for the perspective of the public. Despite the number of legislations and ethical regulations imposed by authorities, there are several factors that can be considered such as the ‘legitimacy of public interest’, the perceptions of the individual, and the ‘public character’ of the individual himself (i.e., actors and actresses), to name a few.
Media Coverage
In line with this, media privacy invasion seems to differ depending of the level of its reach, in terms of the perception on violation and its legal consequences.
Local Level
In the local level, media invasion privacy seems to be a lesser issue within the community. Since a community is usually composed of individuals who knows (or vaguely knows) each other, media invasion of privacy seems to be a lesser issue. Specifically, the author believes that since communities are usually composed of individuals who know each other, then there is a tendency for everyone to have some knowledge of the lives of his neighbor or co-community member. They can be friends, peers, congregation members, or volunteers, who would know a little bit about one another, thereby creating the idea of familiarity amongst themselves.
