Please identify the communication research method used for each of the 2 studies were read this week: (1) Cardwell, Williams, & Pyle (2017) and (2) Falkheimer et al. (2017). Discussion: Communication Research Method
The study by Cardwell et al. (2017) used the qualitative communication research method. Specifically, the researchers observed and interviewed participants to understand corporate public relations (PR) practitioners' external relationship building. Through observations, the researchers watched PR practitioners in their natural environment and see how they build external relationships. Through interviews, the researchers were able to engage the PR practitioners in discussing their experiences and views on external public relationship building and the challenges they face. The qualitative method was appropriate for the research objectives because it allowed researchers to answer their research questions. For instance, they established that most PR practitioners consider building external relationships as an important part of their job (Cardwell et al., 2017). They also established that some of the challenges PR practitioners face include a lack of trust in journalists and high competition for other practitioners.
