The Problem
Liberalism is a philosophy that focuses on political fairness and ensuring social justice for all community members. Karl Marx’s work has played a significant role in molding the modern world. One of the problems handled by Marx is the issue of capitalism (Marx, 1959). In the liberal and political philosophy, Marx shows that capitalists exploited the workers to win gain. The mighty working class drives the exploitation of workers in the capitalist economy. In such a scenario, they exploit the middle working class as a way of expanding their businesses. Politically, capitalism ensured power remained under control, and only a few people would influence society. Capitalism is embedded in liberalism, and it bars human beings from progress (Marx & Engels, 2006). According to Marx, Liberalism should indulge in fighting for equity and fairness. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to have fairness and equity in the modern world due to political influence.
Wollstonecraft was a philosopher who focused on education and fighting for equal opportunities for women. However, she failed to handle the concepts of fairness and overall virtues in society. John Locke could not justify the ownership of property and the significance of education to women in society. The philosophers handled issues depending on the setting of the society. They also handled issues that they felt affected society in significant ways. Therefore, it would be illogical to say they misunderstood human nature.
