Summarize what Achebe is saying about his youth and his Igbo heritage and discuss why you feel he begins the work talking about these things. Nigeria writer Chinua Achebe believed that there was a need for African writers to reclaim their history as the former colonizers’ narratives on Africa mostly highlighted what was negative and ‘primitive’. Achebe focused on Igbo heritage and youth experiences in colonial Nigeria and before independence to highlight how he felt comfort and a sense of belonging because he connected to his fellow Igbo people.
