1. Why has Norman Rockwell often been associated with quintessential American imagery? Why wasn't he encouraged by the government to create posters for them based on the Four Freedoms?

Norman Rockwell and his works are associated with quintessential American imagery because it depicted a domestic and truly American feel relatable to the citizens. He was not encouraged by the government and was even belittled because they preferred a younger artist that painted typical war posters that will encourage people to contribute to the war fund instead of Rockwell’s style, which shows the people what the country is fighting for (Borgwardt).

Rockwell depicted the four freedoms in his works by using ordinary citizens as subjects and placing them in everyday situations that can be relatable to everyone (Lynch III). The four spaces showed the American culture and tradition scenarios that stimulate emotions of what these freedoms mean.
