The first question that this text raises is on how different and/or similar Christianity and Judaism are. To answer this question, the author explores certain elements of religion. It is revealed that when it comes to the nature of man, Christianity believes that men are predisposed to sin while Judaism believes that men have the potential to be good if they choose to. It is further revealed in Christianity, Jesus is accepted as the Messiah, who is actually a divine being but in Judaism, Jesus is not the Messiah and is treated as just a man. In terms of similarities, the text reveals that both religions are monotheistic and are guided by a “basic and characteristic” belief. The second question is on how certain aspects of religion within Christianity are viewed by Protestants and Catholics. The first answer to this question lies in the nature of authority within the religion. Among Catholics, authority comes from the Roman Catholic Church but among Protestants, it comes from the Scripture. Second, Catholics believe in the confession of sin to a priest, which is not usually the case with Protestants. Third, Catholics hold some beliefs about the mother of Jesus, believing that she was born free of the original sin and after death, she went to heaven in an intact body, a belief that is not shared by Protestants.
