Details on how to access the book are available on the course website.    Length:  500 words (maximum) for each submission (x3 submissions) Value:  20% (2.1 = 5% | 2.2 = 5% | 2.3 = 10%) Due:  Submit by 10am on Quercus on each of the dates specified below. An excellent response will demonstrate that you have read the assigned chapters and reflected on them, and where possible, that you have drawn connections to themes from the course.                       Tips: • As ever, please be mindful of the difference between opinion and argument (we are interested in arguments, not opinions). This may include your own personal observations and experiences, however, an argument also requires support such as examples from the book or the course more broadly.   Format: • Put your name, student number, course number, TA name, tutorial name and time, and date on the first page of your paper.  • Double-space your text; use 1-inch margins, 12 pt font, and number all your pages. • Be sure to proofread the paper and do not exceed the maximum length.  • Retain a copy of your paper that can be submitted in the event of the original being lost or misplaced.

The Parable of the Sower
Student’s Name
The Parable of the Sower
The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler offers a grim picture of the state of cities in the United States. It highlights the progression of some serious environmental issues facing the world today. The ecological problems trace back to the industrialization era and negatively affect the earth’s climate getting worse with each new generation (Hansen et al., 1998). Excessive degradation of the natural environment and the worsening ecology of cities in The Parable of the Sower give a powerful warning of the potential disaster that lay ahead if people neglect environmental conservation.
