ASSIGNMENT: Final Research Paper

Research Focus: Your research focus is one specific issue facing society today that correlates to a theme in our book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Consider choosing from one of the following themes as the broad topic for your paper:

  1. Significance of Responsibility
  2. Effects of Isolation
  3. Pursuit of Knowledge
  4. Importance of Appearance
  5. Complications with Revenge/Violence

You will be referencing Frankenstein in your paper, but your research is NOT an analysis of the novel. Your connection to the book is simply a reference 

For example, if you are looking at the importance of students taking responsibility for their actions, then you can reference Frankenstein by illustrating how Dr. Frankenstein ran from his responsibility to care for the creature he created, and the outcomes of his actions were disastrous. His failing to take responsibility for his actions is not unlike students who blame their instructors for failing a class, even though they have not availed themselves of the help that was available. Their inability to take responsibility for their choices has equally dire consequences because the students’ GPA drops, they’ve wasted precious time, and they have to retake the class.

You’ll want to begin thinking outside of the box and look at how each of these themes impacts us today. There is a correlation that can be made to Frankenstein in each of the themes listed above.

□     Transition between points in paragraphs and between paragraphs.

□     Employ appropriate grammar, punctuation, diction, and tone.

□     Use correct MLA format.

□     Use third person only for the paper.
