Summary
The study aims at investigating the redo cardiac operations results which were done for ten years. The period which the patients of the cardiac redo operation have been in observation is enough to say the results are medium-term results (Onorati et al., 2014). The redo aortic valve replacement (AVR) has reliable and acceptable results although scholar has always called it a single center experience. The study looks at 711 RAVR cases to determine the mortality rate of highly risky subgroups of people whose age is above 75 years. Despite the credibility of the results, the transcatheter aortic valve replacement has been questioning the efficacy of the procedure recently.
Sample
The participants of the study included older adults who were more 75 years old and older. This study aimed at determining the mortality of the patients who underwent the redo-AVR who belonged to the group which is highly vulnerable to mortality rate. That is how the sample population was chosen. The sampling method used was non-random since all the patients who were aged 75 years, and above were all included in the study (Onorati et al., 2014). Also, the research was conducted in seven hospitals across Europe where the selected countries were Finland, Germany, and Poland. There was a random selection of hospitals, but the patients in those hospitals were non-randomly selected. The study involved a large sample size from seven hospitals across Europe. The number of patients in the sample was 711, i.e. (n=711).
Type of Study
A retrospective study was conducted to include all the patients of the age above 75 years. The patients selected had gone through redo-AVR surgery between the beginning of the year 2003 and 2003. The method of the study included observation where the patient's data was recorded during the operation. The observed patients did not have their names published or filed after the research (Onorati et al., 2014). Therefore this kind of research was confidential since the names were left anonymous. The type of research study that is done in the hospitals and does not publish the victim's names helps them to retain their privacy, but at the same time, their data help in statistical research studies.
The method of data collection was mainly by systematic and direct observations. The data obtained was quantifiable, and it was used to calculate the mean standard deviation of the variable. The quality of research that gives countable data or statistics makes it qualify as quantitative research. Therefore, it can be concluded that this study was quantitative.
