Redo Heart Operations
Medical personnel all over the world work hard to save the lives of people. In addition to that, different types of doctors and surgeon all face difficulties in their specific field. Cardiologists deal with the problems related to the heart. Redo heart surgeries have become a common trend in the medical world. It has become hard to perform redo heart surgery to patients with artificial valves. The main reason behind this is the high mortality rate at early age. There has been study and research mostly carried out during a time span of 30 years. The studies cover a lot of information including an analysis to see whether the patient is qualified for the surgery. The essay discuses an example of a research carried out on redo heart surgery.
The main aim of the research was to come to a conclusion on the factors that cause risks in the first reoperation for early prosthetic valve dysfunction in both early and late mortality life. Redo surgery means implantation of a valve in the heart that was implanted before. The method of study used was retrospective observational which was carried out on both men and women. The study included 194 patients with artificial mechanical valves who underwent surgery. In the group of the patients who underwent surgery, there were 119 women and 75 men. The age group was that of between 18 to 74 years. On the other hand, the time span of the surgery was about 6 days to 19 years(Tingleff ,2018). After the procedure, there were about three patients who were implanted both mechanical and biological valves. The number of patients implanted with an artificial mitral valve was one hundred and twenty of who sixty two of them had bio prosthesis. The patients who underwent the implant of the aortic nerve were thirty six of them and among them, thirteen patients had two bio prosthesis. The other thirty five were implanted with both mitral and aortic valves.
After being implanted with the first artificial valve, there were twenty two patients who went through redo surgery within the first thirty days after the operation. However, there were forty two abrupt procedures were carried out as they seemed urgent. Out of the people who underwent surgery, one hundred and five patients which is equivalent to fifty four percent of the whole amount were documented to belong to the New York Hospital Association class. Sadly, one hu...
