The Emergence of Private Authority in Global Governance
As far as this article is concerned, the authors manage to make a strong case on the influence of private entities and authorities on the issue of global governance. In the article, the authors seek to demonstrate the profound influence that private authority has had on the development of governance in recent years, and they manage to successfully achieve this goal. As a means of demonstrating their argument, the authors underscore the importance of changes in the authority systems across the world as key contributing factors to the emergence of private authority in global governance. They posit that the increase in actors within the global governance arena (mainly private authorities and entities) has directly contributed towards a transformation in the social relationships between exercisers of authority and the subjects of said authority. At the same time, the authors manage to demonstrate how market authority, moral authority, and illicit authority have contributed towards affecting the international political economy. The authors conclude by asserting that the influences of private authority are likely to transcend the entirety of society, which is likely to further transform global governance. While this article does an exceptional job at exploring existing literature on the topic, it would have benefitted from more in-depth assessments of private authority from a broader perspective.[T. J. In this article, the authors seek to explore the influence, if any, of transnational advocacy networks on oil companies operating in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Through this article, the authors seek to explore how transnational advocacy networks contribute towards affecting the operational efficiency of oil companies operating in the Ecuadorian Amazon and what factors make these networks particularly strong and efficient at doing so. In this regard, the authors posit that building effective advocacy networks with clear goals is instrumental to controlling the activities of oil companies in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and in the world in general. In order to prove this point, the authors review existing case studies of how transnational advocacy networks have collaborated with others, developed effective operational procedures, and outlined clear goals as a means of keeping oil companies in the Ecuadorian Amazon in check. This case study design works perfectly in this regard. In conclusion, the authors establish that systematic approaches to transnational advocacy networks focused on corporates can go a long way towards increasing target vulnerability and making the efforts of such networks more successful.
